Woven wood shades in a Battery home on the Grand Strand by A Shade Above Coastal.
Top-Selling Shade on the Strand·Authorized Hunter Douglas Dealer·★★★★★ 4.9 / 60+ Reviews

Woven wood shades are the answer for ocean-facing living rooms, dining rooms with a view, and sunrooms on the channel side. They filter light without flattening it — turning hard afternoon sun into a warm, textured glow that looks like vacation. The natural fibers (bamboo, grass, reed, sometimes jute) come from real plant material woven flat, and the resulting shade carries texture and depth that you can't fake with a synthetic.

The two trade-offs: privacy and blackout. Woven wood is naturally semi-translucent. If you want privacy or true blackout — for a bedroom or a bath — we add a liner to the back, either privacy-grade for daytime use or blackout-grade for full opacity. Both options ship attached and don't change the look from the room side.

Woven Wood Questions

What we hear most.

Will woven wood shades hold up at the beach?
Yes — the natural fibers are surprisingly resilient on the coast. They don't warp like real-wood blinds, and salt air doesn't degrade them the way it would untreated wood. We've got installs in oceanfront condos that are 10+ years old and still look great. The exception is direct, unfiltered ocean spray — for screened porches or fully exposed exterior installs, use exterior solar shades instead.
Can woven wood shades be motorized?
Yes — woven wood pairs with Hunter Douglas PowerView motorization. App control, voice (Alexa, Google Home), scheduled open-and-close, and smart-home integration all work on woven wood the same as on a roller shade.
Do woven woods come with a liner?
Optional. Standard woven wood is semi-translucent, which is great for living rooms but not ideal for bedrooms. We add a privacy or blackout liner for any opening that needs full opacity. The liner ships attached and is invisible from the room side.
How much do woven wood shades cost?
Pricing varies by size, weave, and whether you add a liner or motorization. A typical 36-inch-wide bedroom shade with a privacy liner runs in the mid-hundreds; oversized living-room or transom installs with motorization can run into the low thousands. We give written quotes that itemize every opening, and the quote holds for 30 days.
